There’s no way we could make up what Politics West just reported:
Sometimes at the state Capitol, the debates fly less like arrows and more like boomerangs that come around and smack you in the back of the head.
Such was the case today, when Republicans stood up to voice concerns over a bill authorizing slow-poke electric cars to use some city streets, protesting that there is no way for the state to recoup the gas tax revenue owners of those cars wouldn’t be paying. [Pols emphasis]
“What if these cars took off and 50 percent of people went to these cars? Look at what that would do to our gas tax revenue,” said Sen. Scott Renfroe, a Greeley Republican who said he otherwise supports greater use of electric cars. “What would we do to fund our roads?”
Democrats found this all quite ironic given that, last month, Republicans argued fiercely against the Democrats’ proposed idea for fixing just this predicament: a tax based on how many miles you drive as opposed to how much gas you use…
Yeah, but, you know, that was then, and…okay, we’ll stop. It’s better if you don’t bother keeping track of this stuff, it really doesn’t matter much the next day.
Once again (and again, and again) we ask: Who the hell is running things over there in GOP land? Anybody seen Josh Penry? Anyone? Anyone?
